Museum Schnütgen

Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Medieval Christian art takes centre stage here, mostly works from the Rhineland made between the 11th and 15th centuries. A few pieces date from the Baroque and the 19th century, and some come from other European cultures such as Byzantium. The collection is shown in the Romanesque church of St. Cäcilien, built in the 12th century and still carrying murals from around 1300. A newer building from 2010 adds gallery space, with about 2,000 objects on display.
