Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig / Museum zum Arabischen Coffe Baum

Leipzig, Sachsen

Coffee has been served at the Coffe Baum, just off Leipzig's old town centre, since 1711, making it one of Europe's first coffee houses. Sixteen historic rooms in the baroque building trace the story of coffee, from the strict coffee-house rules of the 18th century and the GDR's coffee crisis to colonialism and global trade. You will see Melitta Bentz's coffee filters and the Mokka Efti coffee maker, and the sculpture above the doorway that gave the house its name.
