Spengler-Museum und Spengler-Haus Sangerhausen

Sangerhausen, Sachsen-Anhalt

This local history museum in Sangerhausen takes you from the Ice Age to the story of the town itself. The permanent display covers geology, natural history, prehistory and early history, and the Middle Ages, with a section on Einar Schleef, the author and director born in the town. The building, opened in 1952, is regarded as the first museum built from scratch in East Germany. Spengler's former home on Hospitalstraße, whose collections started it all, is part of the museum too and shows family life and domestic interiors around 1900.
