Bauernkriegspanorama

Bad Frankenhausen/Kyffhäuser, Thüringen

One enormous circular painting fills this purpose-built museum on the Schlachtberg above Bad Frankenhausen: Werner Tübke's canvas on the Peasants' War and the early bourgeois revolution in Germany. The Leipzig painter worked on it from 1976 to 1987. It measures about 14 by 123 metres, some 1,722 square metres, making it one of the largest panoramas in the world. It commemorates the war and its leader Thomas Müntzer, at the foot of the Kyffhäuser hills.
