Panorama Racławicka

Wrocław, dolnośląskie

Step inside a circular hall and the battlefield wraps around you: a huge oil painting, 15 by 114 metres, shows the Battle of Racławice of 1794, when Kościuszko's forces defeated the Russians. It was painted in 1893–1894 under Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak, originally for Lwów, and has been in Wrocław since 1980. Lighting and a built-up foreground of real terrain blend into the canvas to give the scene depth.
