Across from the New Town Hall on the edge of the Maschpark, Hanover's state museum covers nature, human history and art under one roof. The natural history section pairs live animals with specimens, while the human history section runs from evolution to modern times through archaeology and ethnology. The art galleries hold paintings, prints and sculpture from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, along with items from the coin collection. The Neo-Renaissance building dates from 1902.
