Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Museum am Theaterplatz

Chemnitz, Sachsen

Painting, sculpture, prints, textiles and decorative arts share a building that opened in 1909 as the King Albert Museum, on Theaterplatz. The prints range from Daumier to Picasso, Schmidt-Rottluff and Feininger, while the applied arts include Coptic textiles from the 4th to 8th centuries. An unusual draw is the collection of 5,000 stockings from 1880 to 1910. The museum also houses the archive of the artist Carlfriedrich Claus.
