Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz

Chemnitz, Sachsen

Natural history takes over part of the DAStietz cultural centre in Chemnitz, with more than 300,000 items in the collections, a historic cabinet called the Sterzeleanum and an insectarium. The big light-filled atrium holds the Petrified Forest, the largest plant fossil in Europe, and is the highlight of a visit. The collections date back to 1868, making this the oldest museum in the city.
