Kunsthalle Bremen

Bremen, Freie Hansestadt Bremen

Set in the green ramparts just beside Bremen's old town, this art museum covers European painting from the 14th century to today, plus sculpture from the 16th century onwards. French and German canvases of the 19th and 20th centuries are a particular strength, with works by Monet, Manet, Cézanne, Liebermann, Beckmann and Paula Modersohn-Becker. There is also a new media collection, including Nam June Paik and Olafur Eliasson, and a vast holding of around 220,000 prints and drawings. The nineteenth-century building has been extended several times, most recently in 2011.
