Kreismuseum Wewelsburg

Büren, Nordrhein-Westfalen

High above the Alme valley stands Wewelsburg, Germany's only triangular castle still preserved as a closed complex. Prince-bishops of Paderborn built it on a rocky spur between 1603 and 1609 in the Weser Renaissance style. The museum includes a history display on the Paderborn prince-bishopric and a memorial on the castle's role in the SS from 1933 to 1945. The castle also has a restaurant and a youth hostel.
