Erzbischöfliches Diözesanmuseum Paderborn

Paderborn, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Around a thousand years of Christian art fill this museum in Paderborn, with a particular strength in sculpture and goldsmiths' work from the Romanesque to the Baroque. The collection runs to more than 12,000 works and keeps growing. It began in 1853 as a refuge for church artworks that were no longer in use or were at risk, and it is the oldest diocesan museum in the German-speaking world. Large special exhibitions and contemporary art projects complement the permanent holdings.
