Hüttenmuseum Thale

Thale, Sachsen-Anhalt

At the entrance to the Bode valley, a few minutes from the station, this museum traces the Thale ironworks from a sheet-metal mill in 1686 to a large industrial plant in the 20th century. Models of a bloomery furnace, blast furnace and finery fire explain how iron was smelted and worked. It occupies the former home of the works owner, and the neighbouring works chapel serves as a gallery.
