Eisenzeithaus Darpvenne

Ostercappeln, Niedersachsen

A reconstructed farmstead from the pre-Roman Iron Age, around 300 BC, on the northern slope of the Wiehengebirge hills. The thatched longhouse, built of oak posts and clay-plastered wattle walls, measures 16 by 8 metres and combines a hearth area with animal stalls. A bake oven, smokehouse and ironworking areas across the 3,000-square-metre site show how people lived then.
