Deutsches Verpackungs-Museum

Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg

Packaging gets its own story here, from generations of the Nivea tin and the Coca-Cola bottle to the Persil box. The permanent display holds more than 1,000 pieces from well-known brands and eras, along with children's toy shops from the 19th and 20th centuries and stoneware mineral-water jugs from the 18th century. The museum sits in a restored 19th-century emergency church in a courtyard off Hauptstraße 22, in the old town. Look out for the cigarette tin made for sale aboard the Titanic, decorated with a drawing of the ship heading for an iceberg.
