Originals and casts meet here: nearly 9,000 ancient originals, including pottery, terracottas and objects of metal and stone, plus around 1,200 large casts of statues, reliefs, busts and portraits. The university collection serves teaching and research and is also open to the public as a museum of antiquities. About 14,400 small casts, mainly of gems and coins, complete it.
