Städtische Galerie Dresden

Dresden, Sachsen

The city's own art museum fills the first floor of the Landhaus with 19th- and 20th-century works from Dresden's municipal collection. The building was put up between 1770 and 1775 to designs by Friedrich August Krubsacius and first served as a meeting hall for the Saxon estates. The collection began in 1869 with a society whose members bought early portraits of notable Dresden figures.
