Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst

München, Bayern

Ancient Egyptian art from all periods, from predynastic times to the Coptic Christian era, fills this museum, along with a few pieces from Nubia, Assyria and Babylonia. The building in Munich's Kunstareal is largely underground and recalls a burial chamber, with an entrance wall echoing temple pylons. A bright entrance hall leads to large halls and then to smaller, darker rooms on themes such as the pharaoh and religion. The collection grew from the holdings of Bavarian rulers.
