Spohr Museum

Kassel, Hessen

This museum is devoted to Louis Spohr (1784–1859), the violinist, conductor and composer who worked in Kassel. The first floor introduces his life through scores, furniture and instruments he owned, among them a Streicher grand piano that survives almost in its original state. Sound clips and multimedia stations let you listen and join in. The second floor widens the view to Kassel's musical history, with exhibits on Heinrich Schütz, Landgrave Moritz, Gustav Mahler and even the Technodisko Stammheim.
