Schloss Johannisburg

Aschaffenburg, Bayern

This red sandstone palace above the River Main dominates the skyline of Aschaffenburg. Built between 1605 and 1614 in Renaissance style, it served as the second residence of the Archbishops and Electors of Mainz. The keep survives from the medieval castle that stood on the same spot. The palace also houses the Schlossmuseum.
