Schloss Ambras Innsbruck (Museum)

Innsbruck, Tirol

Archduke Ferdinand II had the lower castle of Ambras built from 1570 specifically to house his collections, making it one of the earliest purpose-built museums. The Renaissance complex above Innsbruck has three parts: the lower castle, the upper castle and the Spanish Hall. At its heart are still the collections of this Habsburg collector.
