Schloss Ambras
Innsbruck, Tirol
Archduke Ferdinand II turned the medieval fortress into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century and housed his collections in the Lower Castle, built specially for them. Among them are armouries showing masterpieces of the European armourer's art. The castle stands in the hills above Innsbruck, set in a large park. Because of that early collection it counts among the oldest museums in the world.
