Schieferdorfmuseum Schmiedebach

Lehesten, Thüringen

Housed in an old brewhouse first mentioned in 1575, later also used as a fire station, this village museum stands right beside the church. It shows everyday objects, farming and craft tools, and a classroom furnished as it once was. The main themes are life in East Germany and the centuries-old quarrying and working of slate. There are also exhibits on the Laura concentration camp memorial and the Oertelbruch quarry at the edge of the village.
