Salzbergwerk Altaussee

Altaussee, Steiermark

Deep in the Sandling mountain above Altaussee lies Austria's largest salt mine, still a working operation. Salt mining here is documented as far back as the 12th century. Visitors come to go underground and learn how salt is won from the mountain in the Salzkammergut.
