Römisches Freilichtmuseum Hechingen-Stein

Hechingen, Baden-Württemberg

In woodland above the village of Stein lie the remains of an unusually large Roman villa rustica of about five hectares, with residential and farm buildings inside a surrounding wall. Excavations have uncovered a sacred precinct, a mill, a granary, the entrance gate, a smithy and a corner tower. Finds outside the walls show that a whole Roman settlement once stood here.
