NS-Dokumentationszentrum der Stadt Köln

Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Cologne's years under National Socialism are told in the very building where the local Gestapo had its headquarters. The EL-DE building, named after its owner Leopold Dahmen, served the Gestapo from December 1935 to March 1945, and several hundred people, mostly foreign forced labourers, were murdered in its courtyard in the final months of the war. The house came through the war largely intact and now works as museum, memorial and research centre.
