Naturmuseum Salzkammergut

Ebensee am Traunsee, Oberösterreich

Wildlife from all seven continents is staged here in dioramas of various sizes, which is the only way the permanent exhibition presents its material. One piece worth seeking out is an Egyptian crocodile mummy, radiocarbon-dated to about 2,400 years old. This privately run natural history museum sits right on the main road between Bad Ischl and Ebensee. Behind the scenes it also keeps scientific collections and a library, which are reserved for researchers.
