Close to the lake and below the salt mountain, this museum takes you through 7,000 years of Hallstatt's history by way of archaeological finds. You will see objects from the salt mines, the oldest in the world, and from the Iron Age cemeteries near them, which made Hallstatt the type site of a whole culture. The museum has existed since 1884.
