Museum für Haustierkunde Julius Kühn

Halle (Saale), Sachsen-Anhalt

This university museum in Halle is devoted entirely to domestic animals. Its collection grew out of the Haustiergarten, a teaching garden that agricultural scientist Julius Kühn began building in 1865 to show as many domestic breeds and related species as possible. At times more than 1,000 animals were kept there for teaching and breeding experiments, until the garden closed in 1969.
