Museum der Natur Gotha

Thüringen, Thüringen

Rocks, fossils and animals fill this natural history museum, whose geological, palaeontological and zoological collections trace back to the nature cabinets of the Gotha dukes in the 17th century. It is based in Schloss Friedenstein, where the permanent exhibition Tiere im Turm occupies the west tower. Worth a look are the painted backdrops of the hunting and animal dioramas, made by Friedrich Reimann in the early 1950s.
