Herzogliches Museum Gotha
Gotha, Thüringen
Across the park from Friedenstein Castle, this 19th-century Neo-Renaissance building holds the art collection of the dukes of Saxe-Gotha. Rooms present Egyptian and Greco-Roman antiquities, Renaissance paintings, Chinese and Japanese art, and sculpture from many periods. The star piece is The Lovers, a painting from 1480 known in German as the Gothaer Liebespaar.
