Museum Alte Lateinschule

Großenhain, Sachsen

This Baroque house in the centre of Großenhain stands on the walls of an earlier building from after 1540 and is among the town's oldest. It served as the Latin school for centuries, and since 1907 it has housed the town museum on Großenhain's history. In 1828 Karl Benjamin Preusker set up a school library here, from which Germany's first public library grew.
