Gedenkstätte Ehrenhain Zeithain

This memorial recalls the Wehrmacht prisoner-of-war camp near Zeithain, where between 1941 and 1945 some 25,000 to 30,000 Soviet prisoners and more than 900 from other countries died, at least 874 of them Italians. A permanent exhibition in the Dokumentenhaus and in a surviving camp barrack tells the camp's story. The dead are buried in four cemeteries around the former camp site at Jacobsthal station.
