KZ-Gedenkstätte Neuengamme – Außenstelle Bullenhuser Damm

Hamburg, Hamburg

In the cellar of this former school in Hamburg's Rothenburgsort district, the SS murdered twenty Jewish children, their four adult caretakers and 24 Soviet prisoners on the night of 21 April 1945. The children came from Poland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Italy and France. During the war the building served as a subcamp of Neuengamme concentration camp. A memorial has stood here since 1979, and the school was later named after the murdered paediatrician Janusz Korczak.
