Deichtorhallen
Hamburg, Hamburg
Two steel-and-glass market halls, built between 1911 and 1914 on the site of the former Berliner Bahnhof, now show contemporary art and photography. Their architecture, poised between Art Nouveau and 20th-century design, is worth a look in itself. The southern hall is the House of Photography. A branch in Harburg, the Sammlung Falckenberg, holds around 2,400 works of contemporary art.
