Krippenmuseum

Oberstadion, Baden-Württemberg

Some 160 nativity scenes by artists from Germany, Italy and Austria fill two floors of a listed parish barn built in 1612, spread over more than 600 square metres. One piece weighs 2.5 tonnes, making it among the heaviest nativity scenes around. A year-round crib by the Oberammergau brothers Tobias and Herbert Haseidl tells its story in scenes found nowhere else in Germany. A film in the lecture hall explains how the craft of crib-making developed in Oberstadion and in Luttach, Italy.
