Kirchenmuseum

Marienhafe, Niedersachsen

Housed in the tower of St Mary's church, this museum shows how vast the building once was; until its partial demolition in 1829 it was East Frisia's most important church. You see remains of a sandstone frieze, sculpture fragments, a wooden model of the old church and a drawing of its lost figures. A copy of the portrait of Kunz von der Rosen, long taken for Störtebeker, hangs here too. From the museum you can climb the 35-metre tower for views over the Brookmerland and Krummhörn.
