Glasmuseum Immenhausen

Immenhausen, Hessen

Housed in the converted generator building of the former Süßmuth glassworks on the edge of the Reinhardswald, this museum follows the story of glass from its beginnings in the Near East almost 6,000 years ago to the forest glassworks of 16th-century northern Hesse and southern Lower Saxony. The focus is on the glass trade in Immenhausen itself, with tools, machinery, photographs and films showing how glass was made and finished, and how the glassmakers worked and lived. The showpiece is an enamel-painted Electors' tankard from 1597.
