Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stollen

Lichtenberg, Bayern

This show mine near Lichtenberg in the Hof district is a tunnel 975 metres long, planned by Alexander von Humboldt in 1793 and finished only in 1831. It drained other mines in the area and was then the most modern mine in the region. The entrance lies by the Selbitz river, at the mouth of the Höllental gorge.
