The former Stasi remand prison in Rostock is now a memorial showing how East Germany's Ministry for State Security operated and remembering its victims. It is one of the best-preserved prisons of its kind. Visitors see cells, shower rooms, the exercise yard with its so-called tiger cages, and dark cells.
