Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum

Bremerhaven, Freie Hansestadt Bremen

Right on Bremerhaven's Old Harbour, the national maritime museum occupies a building designed by Hans Scharoun. Historic ships moored in the harbour basin belong to it, among them the windjammer Seute Deern. Inside, the Hansekogge is the star: a ship built around 1380, found in the Weser in 1962 and painstakingly conserved. The building and the fleet are protected together as a heritage ensemble.
