Dauerausstellung Alte Synagoge

Erfurt, Thüringen

With parts dating to the 11th century, this is the oldest synagogue in central Europe preserved up to its roof. Inside, the exhibition traces medieval Jewish life in Erfurt: the building's history on the ground floor, a treasure buried during the 1349 pogrom in the cellar, and the Erfurt Hebrew manuscripts upstairs. Gravestones from the destroyed medieval cemetery stand in the courtyard.
