Cornberger Sandsteinmuseum

Cornberg, Hessen

On the upper floor of the west wing of the former Cornberg convent, this museum shows how Cornberg sandstone was worked and used, a stone known for its prehistoric animal tracks. Fossils from the Zechstein and copper shale give a picture of marine life and plants of the Permian, around 250 million years ago. The local history section covers the convent and village, including a reconstructed living kitchen from the miners' settlement built between 1938 and 1941.
