Jüdisches Museum Rotenburg an der Fulda

Rotenburg an der Fulda, Hessen

The ground floor of this former mikveh building holds two ritual baths: a deep one fed by groundwater, probably dug in the 15th century, and a smaller tiled one from 1925. You can also see the base of the oven that heated the washing water and a shaft where slaughtering knives were made kosher. Upstairs, the permanent exhibition follows six centuries of Jewish life in Rotenburg and the surrounding area, with the Torah scroll from the synagogue wrecked in 1938 among its most striking pieces.
