Clara-Zetkin-Gedenkstätte Birkenwerder

Birkenwerder, Brandenburg

Clara Zetkin, a Communist member of the Reichstag, lived in this house in Birkenwerder from 1929 until early 1932. Her son Konstantin bought the property, built in 1911–12 for a painter, for his elderly mother, who wanted sunny rooms and an enclosed garden. The memorial recalls her years here and what happened to the house after 1933, when it was searched and books were confiscated.
