Wittelsbacher Museum

Aichach, Bayern

Housed in the Lower Gate, a town-wall tower built around 1418, this archaeology museum covers the history of Aichach over four floors. The first floor gives an overview of the area's landscape and settlement, tracing the main finds from prehistory to the late Middle Ages. The focus is on the early medieval ore-mining area at Grubet and on the excavations at Wittelsbach Castle, the 12th-century ancestral seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty.
