Westwallmuseum Irrel
Irrel, Rheinland-Pfalz
Close to the Luxembourg border in the Eifel, this museum occupies a genuine Siegfried Line bunker, the Katzenkopf strongpoint, built 1937 to 1939. It guarded the main road from Cologne to Luxembourg and is the northernmost strongpoint of the line. Its above-ground part was blown up and buried in 1947, and excavation began in 1976. It has been open to visitors since 1979.
