Stift Mattsee

Mattsee, Salzburg

Mattsee Abbey goes back to a monastery founded around 765 by Duke Tassilo III and has been a collegiate chapter since about 1045. Its Gothic church, dedicated to the Archangel Michael, was given Baroque stucco and frescoes in the early 18th century. The 60-metre tower, built in 1766, is nicknamed the Goliath of the Mattiggau.
