Schloss Schwarzburg mit Museum Kaisersaal

Schwarzburg, Thüringen

Until its destruction in 1940, Schwarzburg Castle ranked among Germany's finest baroque palaces, and it still sits in a scenic landscape. The Kaisersaal displays full-length portraits of emperors, used by the Schwarzburgs to stress their venerable ancestry. The armoury holds about 4,000 items, the oldest surviving princely armoury collection in Germany. Friedrich Ebert signed the Weimar Constitution here in 1919.
