Schloss Esterházy
Eisenstadt, Burgenland
A Gothic castle of the 13th century became the Baroque palace that served the Esterházy princes as their main residence for over 300 years. The family took it over in 1622 and had it rebuilt. The composer Joseph Haydn worked here for most of his life. It stands in the centre of Eisenstadt, on Esterhazyplatz.
