Schloss Ebelsberg
Linz, Oberösterreich
Three towers, two gates and a courtyard make up this former fortress in Linz's Ebelsberg district, first recorded in 1154. It stood through centuries of fighting, most famously the 1809 battle against Napoleon's troops, when fire badly damaged it. The Linz Gate opens onto the market square, while a chestnut avenue leads from the Enns Gate through the nineteenth-century castle park.
